Bowles Elected 2013 Chair
Dec. 18, 2012
For Immediate Release
L. Elizabeth Bowles Elected 2013 Chairwoman of Arkansas Broadband Committee
Beginning January 2013, Elizabeth Bowles, President and Chair of Aristotle Inc., will don the title of Chair for the Arkansas Broadband Council (ABC). Nominated and elected in the committee’s last meeting of 2012, Bowles will lead ABC and oversee its efforts to provide affordable broadband to homes and business across Arkansas.
The Arkansas Broadband Council is a statutorily created advisory body that is charged with recommending broadband policy for Arkansas. Signed into law in 2007 by Governor Mike Beebe, the Council is comprised of twelve Arkansans, some of whom are appointed by the Governor, the President Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House. Other committee members include representatives from the Arkansas Telecommunications Association, the Arkansas Cable Association and the Wireless Service Providers Association.
As Chair of the committee, Elizabeth Bowles will conduct the monthly council meetings, present council recommendations to the Governor and state legislature, and be responsible for coordinating the Council’s annual report.
"Access to broadband Internet is critical to the future development of the state of Arkansas. Although Arkansas may have lagged behind some states in high-speed access, we have the advantage of learning from other states' mistakes," stated Bowles. "I look forward to continuing to play a role in seeking solutions that enable us to provide broadband access for every Arkansan across our state."
Elizabeth Bowles is also the President of the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA), a national trade association representing the fixed wireless industry that advocates for ubiquitous broadband connectivity nationwide.
