How Aristotle wireless broadband works
What is Wireless Broadband?

Wireless Broadband is the process of connecting your desktop computer, laptop or network to the Internet through the use of secure microwave radios without a phone line or a cable connection. Aristotle has several antennas located throughout the region broadcasting a secure two-way signal to customers.

To understand what Wireless Broadband is, it is helpful to understand what it is not

  • It does not require a phone line or a cable connection.
  • It does not use a satellite signal, as a result, Web pages load faster.
  • It is not a wireless cell phone service.

How fast is Aristotle Wireless Broadband?

Unlike most broadband DSL and cable services, Aristotle Wireless Broadband provides symmetrical upload and download speeds up to four times faster than any other broadband circuit. Equal upload and download speeds are better suited for the use of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video conferencing and remote desktop and server applications (VPN).

Is Aristotle Wireless Broadband secure?

Yes, our network employs military grade AES encryption to make sure your connection is safe. Our system is closed and proprietary. Our routers are WPA encrypted allowing connectivity for only those who have permission to connect to Aristotle's Wireless Broadband network. Unlike DSL or cable Internet, your data is not transported over a public network before arriving at its destination.

What is Military Grade AES Encryption?
AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is a symmetric key encryption technique developed as a result of a worldwide call for submissions of encryption algorithms issued by the US Government's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 1997 and completed in 2000. In June 2003 the U.S. Government (NSA) announced that AES is secure enough to protect classified information up to the TOP SECRET level, the highest security level - defined as information that would cause "exceptionally grave damage" to national security if disclosed to the public.

What is a Site Survey?

A site survey is Aristotle's way of insuring that there is a strong enough signal at your location to provide exceptional service. The FREE survey is conducted by an Aristotle technician to determine if wireless is an option, and if so, what the installation requirements are for your location.

What are the installation requirements?

During your free site survey, Aristotle technicians will determine if an indoor or outdoor CPE (receiver) is required for your location and discuss routing requirements for your connection. Aristotle will provide you with both the CPE and router. There are no equipment fees, just a one-time indoor or outdoor installation/set-up charge.

Aristotle's standard wireless equipment is designed to connect to a computer via the Ethernet port. The equipment is compatible with any computer (Windows, MAC, Linux, etc.) If a customer's computer does not have an Ethernet port they can purchase a USB wireless adapter at any electronics store and connect wirelessly through the router that we provide. There is no software required.

What about hills, trees and weather?

As a general rule, wireless broadband signals cannot penetrate hills or thick trees. In many cases line-of-sight is required. However, Aristotle has deployed a network that uses the latest in wireless Internet technology. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) allows a signal to bounce off flat surfaces and deliver carrier grade signals to customers who may be around the corner or directly under an antenna.

Wireless broadband Internet signals function in all weather conditions, including heavy rain, fog and snow. It is not uncommon for Aristotle wireless customers to lose their TV's satellite signal in a heavy storm, but not lose their Internet connection.
